oh man, i just remembered that when i was applying for a new york state ID i had my birth certificate and social security card (both originals) as well as some other paperwork stuff (paychecks and insurance info) and i went into mcdonalds and left it all there. i had to call them once i had gotten home and was in bed after they closed and go pick it up and everything was fine

Sounds like a nightmare

RE: lost items - GeorgeBubbinzInSpace - 05-04-2016

that reminds me, when I was moving back to saint louis I shipped a big box of stuff over, books, cd's, other material things, and my birth certificate was in there. the box arrived in saint louis with like half of it missing. eventually I got in contact with some dude in atlanta or something and he emailed me a piece of paper to write down all the missing things. but he pretty much told me without saying it that at least some of it was probably stolen. so yeah I never got any of that shit back. the only thing that really mattered was the birth certificate. most of the other things had some serious sentimental value but whatever I guess. some of my favorite cormac mccarthy books I had highlighted and stuff, a couple other things that were gifts I wish I had back, but it's all replaceable. oh a couple seasons of the x-files. those were cool, but I can just watch that online.

though hopefully i never find out, how do you get a fresh copy of your birth certificate? did you ever

RE: lost items - Ben - 05-04-2016

do you just have to call the hospital or something

RE: lost items - K-Man - 05-04-2016

I had to do that once upon time, in NJ you have to contact the Department of Health and request a copy from their Vital Records department. A small fee and mailing some other proof of identity gets you an official copy with the seal and everything. That was like 10+ years ago though, it's probably all online and easy as shit to do now, but a hospital wasn't involved at all.

same story as of like 2 years ago, and no one informed me of an easier way.

I once lost my wallet with all my money and documentation at a Slipknot concert, and I didn't lose the bus tickets back home because they were stupidly mixed with everything else in my bag.

I also lost my sense of pride for going into a Slipknot mosh pit that day but you want material losses, right
