#7 weekly sales thread (wednesday edition) - grue - 06-01-2016 Couldn't post this yesterday, my apologies. This thread is meant for the sharing of sweet, tasty cheap stuff. Keep the more in-depth games discussion to the "What Are You Playing This Month" thread. I don't want the threads to become redundant, and this weekly sales thing will only continue if you guys show any interest in it - if not, I'll just can it. Anyway, if you know something, share it itt. The threads are weekly because the steam sales are weekly. Possible sources of items on sale: http://store.steampowered.com/ https://www.gog.com/ http://www.greenmangaming.com/ https://www.humblebundle.com My picks: The Stanley Parable is 80% off on Steam. It's a funny game, people overthink it a bit imo. GTA V is 33% off on Steam. I've played it a bit on a pirated version that ended up crashing halfway through, it never worked properly. Anyway, the bit that I played was fucking amazing. It's like San Andreas times 10, so cool. I might buy this. Bunch of micromanaging games on sale at GoG. Dwarf Fortress serves all my micromanaging needs, but there might be something here for you. I do not recommend Prison Architect. RE: #7 weekly sales thread (wednesday edition) - Ben - 06-02-2016 what dont you like about prison architect RE: #7 weekly sales thread (wednesday edition) - grue - 06-02-2016 it's fun at the start but it's so formulaic that it gets to a point where nothing really happens. things just sort of fix themselves, it's not very hard, and most of the game is just waiting until you get money to do what you want to do. there are layers of complexity (with the surveillance and stuff) but all they do is simplify the game in the long run because they mean less resources for more security. the story mode is cool though RE: #7 weekly sales thread (wednesday edition) - Tempest - 06-02-2016 hey so The Witness is 15% off for the next 5 days and i coincidentally just beat it last night before i went to bed. today i beat the special challenge puzzle. i can honestly say that the witness is probably the best puzzle game i've ever played. i can't recommend it highly enough for people who love puzzles (but if you get impatient or frustrated easily this is probably not the game for you). nothing is ever directly explained to you; all the puzzles in the game (over 500) follow the same basic building blocks. you are looking at a variably-sized grid, trying to trace a line from the start to the finish. as you go through the game new 'rules' are added to puzzles, making things more difficult. the game doesn't outright tell you these rules; you are supposed to figure them out yourself through trial and error. when a new concept shows up, the game will throw some easy puzzles at you to help you figure out the rule for the upcoming area. it's a fucking masterpiece, honestly. RE: #7 weekly sales thread (wednesday edition) - grue - 06-02-2016 I played The Witness and I really liked it too, though I had to loook up some puzzle solutions because i simply didnt geet what was being asked of me also i missed all the overworld puzzles i kept looking for the quote recordings because i thought they were becoming mta and self-aware, bt it turns out that wasnt the case this video about the game is huge and filled with spoilers, but really awesome https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZokQov_aH0 RE: #7 weekly sales thread (wednesday edition) - Tempest - 06-02-2016 i don't agree with a lot of what that guy says but it's presented in an eloquent way. the problem is, if you watch this video you've already ruined way too much of The Witness for yourself. going into it blind is practically a necessity to enjoying it. i never found myself reaching the point of 'i can't solve anything i have available to me right now', and most of the time when i was stuck on a puzzle it was because i just couldn't see the solution, not because i didn't know how to do the puzzle. RE: #7 weekly sales thread (wednesday edition) - grue - 06-02-2016 i cant really say because i played through basic puzzles and never got to the 100% shit so i have to take his word for it but yeah i like him he puts thought into his shit RE: #7 weekly sales thread (wednesday edition) - GeorgeBubbinzInSpace - 06-03-2016 city skylines is on sale for 10 bucks and I highly rec that game. super addictive for a while RE: #7 weekly sales thread (wednesday edition) - Tyler_Legrand - 06-03-2016 In Nintendo eShop Steamworld Heist is one of the 3DS games on sale and I bought it and it's right up my alley. Turn-based games are great for handhelds imo The classic Day of the Tentacle (remastered) is 33% off on Steam and I bought that too, if you don't like the wobbly flash graphics hit F1 to see original pixels |
