RE: game of thrones (the show) (SPOILERS) - grue - 08-28-2017

ok ive seen bits and pieces. standard finale, things happened predictably from what i've seen. there's one interesting aspect tho

cersei buying the Golden Company is a full 180 from the books

now obviously in so so many aspects the show ignores the books, but hear me out

so there's at least three major sellsword companies in essos. the windblown, the second sons and the golden company

ignoring the windblown for a moment, why are these sellsword companies important? well, the GC is the biggest of them all and was founded by a blackfyre, that's a targarien bastard line that once took arms against the throne to try and take over (the blackfyre rebellion). over the yeears that have gone since, the GC established itself as the biggest company around, and has a reputation of never having broken a ccontract. but still, for several generations of leaders, the GC has been led by a blackfyre descendant and are therefore more or less targaryen loyalists in hiding. so much so that a strong plot point in the book is how illirio and varys have bought the GC to support aegon(daenerys' nephew) and they are, in the last book, invading westeros.

so yeah in the books, the GC are an enemy to the throne, supporting a targaryen that has a legitimate claim to the throne as the son of rhaegar. now, people (myself included) wonder if that aegon is really a targaryen, and I believe the theory that aegon is actually a blackfyre, meaning that varys, illirio and the GC are pushing for a blackfyre to take the throne as blackfyre loyalist. the plan is having him conquer KL and then marry daenerys. but that's not really important.

what's important is that cersei just "bought" 20k men who in the books are very unlikely to take the contract. and she plans to use them vs daenerys fucking targaryen. she's potentially sabotaging herself. it doesn't help that the guy closing the deal is euron "trustworthy" greyjoy. it seems like cersei is overestimating how important getting married to her is, maybe bc of the baby who she expects to be the true heir to the throne rregardless of who he weds.

however, the counterplan here could be euron marrying cersei, and with the golden company turning over to daenerys, stripping cersei of power.

RE: game of thrones (the show) (SPOILERS) - grue - 08-28-2017

this would be a development close to the books

however the counter argument to this is that the second sons are currently in daenerys control. which is very weird, because the second sons have ties with the martell (oberyn served in the second sons) and are largely believed to be trying to sabotage daenerys somehow in essos. they bring doran's son to daenerys and my theory is that they want to try and steal a dragon

but the windblown how up and kinda ruin those plans and then the book ends so it's weird

my point is the second sons are now in the hands of daario back in mereen, and have apparently been swept out of the story. so it's possible that the show simply ignores thee intricacies of these sellsword companies, and is just treating the GC as mercenaries. if that's the case, there's no real story here

RE: game of thrones (the show) (SPOILERS) - grue - 08-29-2017

ALSO I've discussed this with tempest but yeah, cersei's plan makes perfect sense and tbh so does her whole reasoning this episode, it's like she's the only one with a brain there. the only flaw is trusting euron

RE: game of thrones (the show) (SPOILERS) - Tempest - 08-29-2017

i'd like some more clarification from tyrion, who seems to have been turned into this weird character who exists only to nay-say everything dany tries to do that might be a bad idea. they seem to have been setting him up to lose faith in dany, and he looks very disturbed when he realizes that jon and dany are fucking. is he going to end up siding with cersei? hard to tell because we get no insight into his character, unlike before when he was a super important main character.

also varys lol

we don't know what the discussion ended up after tyrion finds out cersei is preggo, which is why I think he is disturbed at the end there

it seemed so fucking out of place and a really weird thing to end on unless it is exactly what you said

RE: game of thrones (the show) (SPOILERS) - Tempest - 08-30-2017

it's possible he's thinking like 'god i hope she doesn't get pregnant right before we have to fight the zombies' but i'm more concerned that he knows cersei is turning on their truce and is part of it or something

RE: game of thrones (the show) (SPOILERS) - Spastic - 08-30-2017

tyrion was told by cersei that she wouldn't be sending troops and so he came up with the lets just tell dany that you'll do it anyways plan

For real though this season is basically just the writers saying "you know what would be dope? If x died" or "if x did this dope ass thing wouldn't that be cool???" without any kind of regard for character motivations or backstory. The whole white walker thing was beyond a fucking joke, and Dany's motivations in this season are garbage.

I felt like they wanted to get the white walkers out of the way as soon as fucking possible just to get to Danny Mad King Drama Lama because obviously that's what the people wanted and that's where the show was OBVIOUSLY headed
