yeah rickon seems to have been added recently for the sole reason of being killed, thus establishing motivation for jon. he was a loose end aswell, so killing him gets rid of that.
I can't complain enough about the writing here. but the directing itself was pretty great. the battle was fucking intense, at any rate. completely predictable, but great. and seeing Bad Guy TM getting his comeuppance is always satisfying.
it's great that Davos finally seems to give a damn about Shireen, though "why only now" is a good question. did it not occur to him that she might have been sacrificed? maybe he thought she died in the battle. you'd assume he had asked, though.
Melissandre having her screen time so people don't forget she exists. can't say the same about Ghost though, that CGI must be really costly. anyway Jon asks why she wasnt at the war room and she said it's not her place and to be fair, jon's question was a pretty good one, because Meli has been in every war room that i can remember so far. "you do not command me" she tells him - lmao wasn't he the prince that was promised or something? also if she's not in his service, how does she get a fancy tent all for herself.
Mereen was bad as expected. that girl power pseudo-feminist pandering between Daenerys and Yara was cringeworthy, god damn. its saving grace was watching Tyrion going full Lannister on those masters, that was pretty sweet, and it reminded me of his father - though i dont know how intentional that was from the showrunners.
also those masters are pretty fucking stupid for not arming their ships with ballistas or some other anti-dragon artillery. i mean... they just kinda float there spitting fire. you'd assume they're easy to hit.
finally dude, that silence of the lambs moment between sansa and ramsay. i half expected him to say "i can smell your cunt from here"
