If it has the graphic power they;re claiming it will I don't really mind the design, so long as there's no motion controls

If this concept is true, detachable controllers just for a wider screen when you find a place for your monitor doesn't seem that beneficial to me. I suppose the detachable controllers become placeholders for Wiimotes for backwards compatibility?

that sounds like an interesting design concept, but im supposed to hold onto two detachable sides? isnt that just asking for them to bend and get fucked up?
have they given up entirely on making a powerhouse console? wont this end up competing with the even next-er gen on some level, and failing? or are they doubling down on the "we are different and a nintendo box" angle

that's what they've always done for like, ever. i don't think they're necessarily "doubling down" on it by doing the same thing they've been doing for the past 20+ years. if anything they did that forever ago with the wii
07-29-2016, 03:30 AM
and their only recent endeavor you could reasonably say "failed" is the wii u and even then almost everyone i know owns one

eh, i dont think they entered that position willingly and the mentality is only about as old as the wii which came 23 years after the NES
im not ragging on nintendo, i love them and i probably had more pure fun on the wii and wii u than ps3/ps4 BUT if the nx replaces the ds line (which has been a monumental success) and if they start to embrace the non-competitiveness then id consider it doubling down yes

i guess if you're talking like, PURELY consoles yeah, but before the wii came all the gameboys which were also significantly different from the norm at the time and ended up being wildly successful for nintendo. i think they did enter it willingly with the wii and knowing that they were filling a very very obvious niche that other manufacturers were neglecting (family games, kid games etc) and it seemed to me like the logical progression from the gameboys alongside the ds
idk if they're really embracing the noncompetitiveness as much as just like... not worrying about it if that makes sense. it sounds like the same thing but i think they're two distinct attitudes and the latter is more reflected in their products. like they know they're gonna be doing something ppl will buy bc they kinda have the monopoly on that particular niche, but they still make quality products anyway
so initial thoughts are that the controller when it's in "console" mode is awful looking. it looks really small and uncomfortable for bigger hands, and it's a solid square for some strange reason
also for some reason the footage they overlaid on the screen for "handheld" mode is super choppy and running at like 15 fps which is super weird??? i'm glad there's a pro controller available because that little box just looks weird, however, I think it's really cool that the d-pad is just a diamond face button configuration; the two side controllers pulling off to make two (very tiny, but still two) individual controllers for 2-player stuff is awesome to me. both people get an identical controller (one analog, one diamond face button configuration). obviously switching from console mode to handheld mode is not gonna be nearly that fast in real life but hey i think overall it looks pretty cool.
