i've created a homepage + archive for our comic tournaments
explosm/spame had a lot of... unique...... traditions/customs/fixtures. they made us laugh, they made us cry, they even made us wonder what matt melvin listens to on the toilet
sometimes, they were even pretty cool and constructive. i think the comic tournament was one of those things. going back through the old threads to pull the previous tournament content made me realize how bizarrely try-hard we really were (every comic was trailed by 10 pretentiously-articulated guffaws) and it made me expect that the comic tourney rounds would actually be pretty lame and disappointing
but i was wrong! i was impressed by a lot of the comic submissions even if they werent har-har-worthy, but some of them really made me laugh (even unironically). you should maybe brace yourself for usage of "gay" and "faggot" that would even make ARK blush
in any case, you can find it here: https://www.spamerica.net/tournament/
this page contains an explanation of how the comic tournament works logistically, how it's usually judged, as well as some examples of past characters and matches. in fact, the near-entirety of comic tournaments 2012 and 2015 (and just the characters from 2010) are uploaded there. you can find tourney entrants by going to the bottom of the previous page and clicking on a character's thumbnail icon, and you can read old matches by clicking on the match numbers down at the bottom as well. or, go here:
https://www.spamerica.net/tournament/entrants.html
https://www.spamerica.net/tournament/tournaments.html
i ask that you give them a read, at least to reminisce if not to also dig up a long-forgotten laugh or two. if you encounter any weird formatting, broken links, or otherwise please tell me
thx
