I've read somewhere that ironically enough, the biggest problem with the show is that it's too close to the books
I know right but here's the thing
They merged several character plotlines into one. This creates boring, Mary Sue characters if they don't diverge story-wise but it's like they want to make their own show, and yet hit the same checkpoints that they know the books are bound to hit at some point. So Sansa Bland has to go through Winterfell because otherwise people would simply forget that the Boltons exist; Tyrion has to hold Mereen with Varys because not doing so would imply creating two very different plotlines (Tyrion's journey to Mereen and the Mereenese politics with Barristan) which would maybe up the costs too greatly or simply be unfeasible in the short ammount of show time; Dorne needs to have a Best Laid Plans kind of plotline to mirror the books but without Aegon, fAegon and the actual Sand Snakes; etc, etc
the problem is that they are hitting the book checkpoints (Winterfell, Mereen, Vaes Dothrak for some reason, Dorne) but with characters that render those checkpoints... (check)pointless. Whereas if they simply said well, fuck the books, now it's our show, maybe it would be much better than this
