I don't want to drag th religion debate but I have to say that analyzing "religion" as a problem requires a lot of historical knowledge and the need to equate the material conditions of the given society, plus the political system and all of that contextual filthyness
using the televangelists or other religious scammers to attack "religion" sounds to me like taking those people who put on a lab coat and sell hair growth balms and using that against "science". people will scam other people by preying on ignorance and manipulating their common referrals, and I don't think any of us is truly immune to that, though it is certainly easier on some more than others.
